Naramata House

Naramata, BC

Construction complete 2022

This property was commissioned by two architects for their retirement home, and is perched above the Kettle Valley Railway Trail overlooking Okanagan Lake.

With a nod to mid-century modernism, the house features simple lines and a planar cross laminated timber ceiling. Expansive glass windows allow the lake view to take centre stage. A strong connection between interior and exterior was also emphasized - with provision for exterior solar shading to extend the living space out to the large deck and pool area.

The design aims to firmly root the home in the Okanagan landscape. The choice of cladding and exterior stone along with native grasses and flowers on the slope down to the KVRT blend with the existing features of the site. Built by local contractor Greyback Construction, the mass timber was fabricated in Okanagan Falls and the dacite stone quarried from Kootenay Boundary and fabricated in Kelowna.
