This project involved a modest modern renovation and addition to a home in Kingston's historic Village of Barriefield. The design maintains the historic character of the house and the neighbourhood, deftly following heritage guidelines to provide clear distinction between old and new elements.
The lower gable roof slopes to match the existing building. But unlike the heritage house, this volume mirrors the character barn in the property’s backyard in scale, material, and detail. This not only compliments the heritage character and quality of the barn, but enhances it.
Inside, the ground floor provides a large open plan layout, with a spacious well-lit kitchen, capitalizing on views towards the Great Cataraqui River and the City of Kingston.
