Lillooet Grown

Lillooet, BC

Feasibility complete 2021

In collaboration with Greenchain Consulting, MOTIV was requested by Lillooet Agriculture & Food Society (LAFS) - a non-profit society supporting local farmers, ranchers and growers in and around Lillooet, BC - to confirm the viability of an agricultural storage facility for the region.

Lillooet has a dry climate and a long growing season, ideal for a diversity of crops and animals. Its location has limited transportation options for processing and distribution of product, which highlights a need for a cooperative approach amongst farmers to get their product to market.

After consulting with local farmers, it was determined that storage needs included a wide array of products including hemp, wine, fresh greens, and carrots - each with unique climate control requirements. Available sites were evaluated and the team recommended an approach that took advantage of existing facilities in the community to meet immediate needs, with plans for expansion of one of the sites in the longer term to develop a centralized facility based on consistent proven demand.

This will be Lillooet’s own version of a food hub - a term that refers to shared-use food processing facilities that offer food and agriculture businesses access to commercial processing space, equipment, expertise, and resources to support business development and growth.
