Keeping it Close to Home

Highlighting these three gems in our East Van neighbourhood today!

Corner stores are an integral part of our food network - something anyone who lives without a car is highly aware of - and even more apparent now that we try to shrink our contact circles to our home and neighbourhood in the midst of COVID 19.

Templeton Market, McGill Grocery and the Dundas Market have been around for years - family run - some for more than one generation. They are mainstays in their neighbourhoods and an integral part of the city fabric… despite rising taxes, aging buildings and awnings and a shift to shopping big box.

Vancouver Councillor Kirby-Young put forward a member’s motion recently requesting that “questions related to the emerging needs of communities and neighbourhoods in the city that could potentially be met by a resurgence and reimagining of corner stores in a post-pandemic context be included as a prominent part of the Vancouver Plan public engagement process.”

We like that idea… and encourage you to stop in at your closest corner store - meet the owners and buy some milk. They need our support.
