Queen’s Park Habitat and Masterplan
New Westminster, BC
Masterplan completed 2023, Habitat Ongoing
Queen’s Park is a 30.5 hectare urban park highly valued by the residents of New Westminster. Within the park, an area affectionately called “the farm” most recently housed a petting zoo during summer months that included goats, chickens and other farm animals amidst the towering coniferous giants of the park. MOTIV was engaged to re-imagine new uses for the site and create a phased Master Plan for implementation over a number of seasons. The masterplan is focused on the idea of Habitat; looking to re-establish and educate on native habitats and finding space for them in an urban environment. This included a renovation of the building that previously housed the petting zoo, to be utilized as a space for gathering and workshops that support education, interaction, and art.
