Since 2020, the Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw Youth Centre in North Vancouver has shared a facility with the Nation’s Food Pantry. MOTIV engaged in feasibility study to explore relocation of the Pantry to another location and expansion of the youth centre into their entire existing building with options for renovation and expansion.
The resulting design provides spaces for dedicated junior and senior youth programming, expanded kitchen and quiet room. A large outdoor canopy provides weather protection for exterior programming and for the youth to gather before the centre opens. The building form builds upon the existing buildings gable structure and introduces a skillion roof with clerestory to bring light into the youth spaces on the north side of the building.
The exterior landscape provides opportunity for play, contemplation, study, and engagement.
