Tsawwassen First Nation Community Farm Development

Tsawwassen, BC

Schematic Design completed 2024

Tsawwassen First Nation has established a set of agricultural aspirations over the past decade in order to re-establish farming and a strong connection of their people to food and the land. The Nation developed an agricultural plan that outlines high level goals, which resulted in the startup of a market garden on a 1.5-acre site within the Agricultural Land Reserve in 2021. As this initiative began gaining traction, the Nation decided to take a step back and look at how the site could function as a central location and strengthen the longevity of Tsawwassen’s cultural knowledge.

MOTIV was engaged for guidance on the masterplan of the farm site, as well as concept design for a new centre to support the events taking place on the farm. The new barn space intends to house art and farmers markets, workshops on Indigenous food growing and preparation, and CSA pickup for Nation members.
