Community Supported Agriculture and Why It Matters

CSA stands for community support agriculture and takes the form of regular folks like us buying produce from farmers in advance of the growing season and then picking up their produce share weekly. A CSA program allows farmers to get some buy-in from the community before the growing season even starts. This helps pay for the cost of getting going early in the season and gives them a more accurate view of sales targets and production needs.

It’s a win-win. The farmer connects directly with the consumer. We get fresh and nutrient dense produce and protein. AND we are keeping it local. MOTIV made holiday gifts of CSAs from Salt & Harrow this year for our staff. Our recent tour of the Tsawwassen First Nation Farm School revealed a veggie, egg and pork program.
